In Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, a tragic incident has led to the apprehension of Inyangake James Peter, a 40-year-old man, for the alleged murder of his 70-year-old mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command confirmed the arrest through its spokesperson, CPS Odiko Macdon, on Monday, April 15, 2024, expressing deep concern over the distressing trend of familial homicides in the region.

According to Macdon’s statement, the suspect purportedly confessed to the heinous act, citing the influence of a compelling voice commanding him to commit matricide. The incident occurred on April 4, 2024, around 9:00 am, at Ikpe Annang Village. Following his confession, Inyangake James Peter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation.

Macdon emphasized that the police are diligently investigating the case and gathering evidence. The suspect’s claims regarding the prompting voice will be scrutinized alongside other aspects of the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, Inyangake James Peter will face legal proceedings in court.
