This downturn marks a stark reversal from previous weeks when the Naira demonstrated resilience and even approached parity with the US Dollar, indicating a promising outlook.

Recall that just weeks ago, optimism soared as the Naira appeared poised to achieve unprecedented strength. However, the economic team led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, comprising luminaries such as Apex Bank Governor Yemi Cardoso, CBN deputies, and Minister of Finance Wale Edun, implemented measures such as the ban on Binance, an alleged currency speculation platform.

Despite these efforts, the anticipated benefits have yet to materialize for Nigerians, with little relief seen in the prices of goods and services. Instead, the Naira’s apparent holiday from volatility seems to have come to an abrupt end, as evidenced by the significant appreciation of the US Dollar and British Pound against the national currency.

Furthermore, recent reports indicate a worrying depletion of Nigeria’s foreign reserves, attributed to purported efforts led by Yemi Cardoso to bolster the Naira’s value.

At present, the exchange rates stand at:

  • 1 USD ⇛ ₦1,207.618
  • 1 GBP ⇛ ₦1,446.833
  • 1 EUR ⇛ ₦1,285.889
  • 1 CAD ⇛ ₦864.933
