Former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (retd), expressed profound concern over the escalating security challenges in Nigeria, characterizing the nation as a battleground and a source of global shame.
According to reports from Channels TV, during a gathering in Taraba state on April 19, the seasoned statesman conveyed his distress, emphasizing that Nigeria’s current state has tarnished its reputation internationally. He urged citizens to cease hostilities amongst themselves and prioritize creating safe environments conducive to development.
“In our present state, Nigeria is a disgrace to the entire world. We find ourselves embroiled in internal conflicts, pitting fellow citizens against each other. It’s imperative that we address our internal discord promptly because, at this juncture, we’ve become an object of mockery on the global stage. We must desist from perpetuating violence against one another, and instead focus on ensuring the safety of our roads and homes, putting an end to the scourge of kidnappings,” Danjuma asserted.
He stressed the necessity of fostering a secure atmosphere, asserting that without such measures, the prospect of foreign investment and participation in national celebrations remains bleak.
