National Disgrace: Methodist Church Condemns Low wages And Soaring Unemployment....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In his address at the 18th Annual Synod of the Diocese of Lagos West, Methodist Church Nigeria, Bishop Rt. Rev. Oluyinka Akande expressed deep concern over the prevailing unemployment crisis, labeling it a matter of national shame. Akande urged governmental action to tackle both unemployment and inadequate wages, emphasizing the necessity of enhancing the welfare of Nigerian citizens.

The Bishop lamented the alarming trend of many states defaulting on salary payments to their employees, despite the augmented financial allocations from the Federal Government. He criticized the continued borrowing practices of some state governors, even in the face of increased funding.

Calling for decisive governmental intervention, Akande stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for business growth, advocating for reduced dependency on imported goods to foster economic resilience.

Akande also highlighted the adverse effects of emigration on the Church, noting that the departure of Nigerian women, often accompanied by their minister husbands, was a significant challenge. He urged authorities to address issues within the oil sector, a vital component of Nigeria’s economy, and hold accountable those hindering its progress.

Directing his attention to President Bola Tinubu, Akande issued a call to action, urging him to prioritize economic revitalization, combat food insecurity, tackle corruption, and fulfill the commitments made to the Nigerian populace upon assuming office.
