The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed its ongoing investigation into 11 individuals suspected of oil theft, alongside the apprehension of the vessel MT SAISNIL II by the Nigerian Navy.

Mr. Dele Oyewole, spokesperson for the Commission, affirmed this development in a statement released on Saturday.

Oyewole clarified that the suspects and the vessel were transferred to the Commission’s custody by the Nigerian Navy, specifically the NNS Beecroft stationed in Apapa, Lagos.

The interception and arrest of the vessel and its crew occurred on February 7, 2024, orchestrated by naval officers.

Reportedly, the suspects were allegedly engaged in unlawful oil bunkering activities and violations of the Automatic Identification System (AIS) within the Abo Oilfield, located in the Ogogoro Community of Ondo State.

“The suspects will be brought before the court once the investigations by the Commission’s operatives in its Lagos Command are concluded,” Oyewole stated.
