Court Issues Warrant For Arrest Of Suspected Land-Grabber In Lagos....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Justice Adenike Coker, presiding over a Lagos State High Court session in Ikeja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Moroof Owonla, also known as Kaka Moroof, and others due to their absence during an ongoing trial regarding alleged felony charges against them.

The accused individuals are implicated in the purported invasion of a hotel property, purportedly aimed at dispossessing businessman Hassan Alli of his property in a suspected case of land-grabbing. It is alleged that they made off with construction materials valued at N30 million.

Despite numerous adjournments caused by the defendants’ non-appearance in court since the case’s initiation, the judge has now taken a firm stance, warning of potential arrest if they fail to attend subsequent hearings. The Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Babajide Martins, had previously filed an eight-count charge against Moroof Owonla, Olu-Aminu Yemisi Abdulaziz, and Ganiyu Aminu, accusing them of conspiracy to commit a felony related to forcibly entering a property on Faguson Osagie Street, Lagos.

Earlier directives from Justice Coker urged the defendants’ legal representatives to ensure their presence for arraignment, or face arrest. However, at the latest hearing, it was revealed that the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, had directed the case to be referred to Restorative Justice in pursuit of a potential resolution.

Despite this, the complainant’s counsel expressed surprise at finding the fugitive defendants attending an Alternative Dispute Resolution meeting, suggesting that the prosecution could indeed locate and present them for trial.

The case has been adjourned once more, this time until May 13, 2023, with the possibility of arraignment looming over the absent defendants.
