Delta Police Raid Nabs Three, Recovers 12 Stolen Cars From Car-Snatching Syndicate

In a significant breakthrough, Delta State Police Command has apprehended a notorious car-snatching syndicate, capturing three members and reclaiming a total of 12 stolen vehicles. The achievement was announced through a statement by Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, released yesterday.

According to Edafe, the operation was initiated following a report received on April 11, 2024, at 16:32 hours, from an individual (whose identity remains undisclosed) residing at Abuja Road DSC Township Oruwhorun. The report indicated the theft of a Toyota Corolla Saloon car from its parked location in Orhuwhorun, subsequently spotted on the Eku/Warri Road near Oha Junction in Okpe LGA.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orerokpe, Paul Oboware, mobilized patrol teams in collaboration with members of Oha community vigilantes. They pursued the suspects to the Army checkpoint at Orerokpe Junction, successfully intercepting the vehicle. One Dickson Omage, aged 47, residing on Post Office Road, Effurun, Warri, was apprehended, and the stolen vehicle was recovered. Additionally, a master key used by the suspect for his illicit activities was seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed the involvement of the suspect and his accomplices in a pattern of car thefts, both during the day and at night. Further interrogation led to the arrest of two other suspects, Samson Ekwunwa, aged 40, and Kanebi Michael, aged 39, in Benin City on April 19, 2024.

The two newly apprehended suspects specialize in altering old chassis and engine numbers to facilitate the sale of stolen vehicles. The Delta State Police Command continues its investigation into the activities of the syndicate to ensure that all accomplices are brought to justice.
