The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended Babatunde Olaoluwa, a notorious individual specializing in the theft of phones from worship centers. His arrest followed an incident where he absconded with seven mobile phones during a service at Christ Apostolic Church in Ayegbaju-Ekiti.

According to a statement by DSP Sunday Abutu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olaoluwa was apprehended at approximately 16:30hrs. He operated alone and had been preying on worshippers, using the cover of religious gatherings to carry out his thefts.

Disguised as a church member, Olaoluwa meticulously observed the worshippers and took advantage of the moment of praise to snatch seven phones. Upon interrogation, he admitted to targeting churches in Oye and Ayegbaju-Ekiti, with previous thefts reported at the Redeemed Christian Church of God and New Reality Christian Center in Oye-Ekiti.

Investigations uncovered Olaoluwa’s modus operandi; he would dispatch the stolen phones to Lagos through a local motor park, where an accomplice facilitated their sale. The proceeds would then be transferred back to him online.

All seven phones pilfered during the Christ Apostolic Church incident were recovered from Olaoluwa. Several victims came forward to identify both him and their stolen property. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, he will face appropriate charges in court.
