Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has initiated talks with Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, concerning accusations of deporting Osun natives from Lagos to the Ilesa region of Osun State. Allegedly, multiple luxurious buses were observed discharging hundreds of youths at various spots in the Ilesa area over the weekend, purportedly after being rounded up from different parts of Lagos.
Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson for Governor Adeleke, issued a statement on Monday, indicating that his principal had engaged Governor Sanwo-Olu on the issue, urging him to address and resolve the situation promptly.
“The report was verified by an investigative team commissioned by the Osun State Government. Eyewitnesses confirmed the arrival of youths in numerous luxurious buses, suspected to be from Lagos State, at various junctions including Ilesa-Akure Express junction, Breweries; Ilesa – Ibodi – Iginla to Ife Express junction; Osun Ankara Express junction; Imelu Express junction; and Iperindo Express junction.”
“During discussions with the Lagos State Governor, Governor Adeleke expressed astonishment at the incident, urging Governor Sanwoolu to investigate and halt it if the reports are accurate,” the statement revealed.
Expressing surprise and concern over the alleged deportation, Governor Adeleke asserted that he had conversed with Governor Sanwoolu, who denied authorizing such actions. “Governor Sanwoolu has pledged an immediate investigation to ascertain the facts. The Lagos team will provide updates promptly. Consequently, I am instructing our security agencies in Osun to intensify surveillance in and around Ilesa to trace the deported youths and their destinations,” stated Governor Adeleke.
