The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has initiated a tariff reduction from N225/Kwh to N206.80/Kwh for band A customers within its operational area. This adjustment comes in response to a directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to reconsider tariffs specifically for band A customers.
Busolami Tunwase, the Lead of Media Relations at IBEDC, announced this development during a press briefing held on Monday in Ota, Ogun State. The revised tariff came into effect on May 4.
Tunwase explained that customers with prepaid meters would immediately experience the new tariff upon recharging in May. Postpaid customers, on the other hand, would see the revised tariff reflected in their electricity bills at the end of May 2024.
She emphasized that tariff rates for bands B, C, D, and E would remain unchanged, reassuring customers of IBEDC’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality and enhanced services across its operational domain.
IBEDC’s coverage area spans Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, and parts of Ekiti, Niger, and Kogi States.
Similarly, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) recently reduced the tariff payable by its Band A customers to N206.80 per kilowatt-hour from the previously approved N225/kWh by NERC. IKEDC’s spokesperson, Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion, disclosed this adjustment on Monday.
The downward review of tariffs for Band A customers under both IBEDC and IKEDC underscores efforts within the electricity sector to enhance affordability and accessibility for consumers.
