Recently, Okpebholo orchestrated a substantial defection event in Igueben, symbolizing the APC’s concerted effort to expand its influence across the state.

Among the prominent figures who crossed over to the APC fold were Hon Ephraim Aluebhosele, a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Ms Golda Oribhabor, a former Commissioner in the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Hon Ehiabhi, the former Chairman of Igueben local government area, and Hon. Best Ose, alongside several other notable PDP leaders in Igueben.

This aggressive recruitment drive suggests that the APC, under Okpebholo’s leadership, is strategically positioning itself to dominate Esanland politically. The implications of these defections are profound, as they are likely to significantly weaken the campaign structure of Asue Ighodalo’s campaign organization.

As events unfold, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the political landscape of Edo State. However, one thing is certain: Okpebholo’s actions have set the stage for a fiercely contested electoral battle between himself and Asue Ighodalo.
