Abuja—Mrs. Ramat Mba, a mother of five, has been found guilty and convicted by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, for forging the signature of the late Abba Kyari, former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, has deferred the sentencing of Mrs. Mba until May 16, 2024. However, he has ordered her remand in Suleja prison.

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) had brought charges against Mba in June 2022, including cheating, fraud, and forgery, as per Sections 13 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 200 and Sections 320 (b), 366 of the Penal Code Cap 89 laws of Northern Nigeria.

During the trial, evidence presented by ICPC’s prosecutor, Mr. Hamza Sani, demonstrated how Mrs. Mba deceived individuals by promising them employment with government agencies like the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), and ICPC.

Documentary evidence revealed that Mrs. Mba forged a letterhead from the Office of the Chief of Staff to former President Muhammad Buhari, Abba Kyari, and his signature. The letter, addressed to the Chairman of ICPC, requested the recruitment of three individuals by the commission. However, a correspondence from the late Chief of Staff, also presented as evidence, denied authorization of the letter.
