In a recent announcement by the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the federal government has revealed its intention to implement charges for helicopter landings. This decision comes as part of efforts to enhance funding for aviation agencies and improve the quality of helicopter operations across the country.
According to Odutayo Oluseyi, the Press and Public Affairs Manager of the Ministry, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has been authorized to commence the collection of these fees. NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited has also been granted exclusive rights to administer the landing fees on behalf of NAMA for federal entities.
Oluseyi emphasized that the move aims to support NAMA’s self-sustainability as mandated by the amended Act of 2022. While NAMA historically relied on revenue from the upper airspace, this initiative seeks to tap into potential revenue from helicopter operations in both upper and lower airspaces.
The statement highlighted the expected benefits of this decision, including improved capacity, efficiency, safety, and security in the aviation industry. It encourages stakeholders to support the initiative, which has undergone due processes and procedures.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the aviation sector’s financial viability while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
