An arsonist struck a mosque during morning prayers, resulting in the confirmed deaths of at least eight worshippers, with 28 others hospitalized. “We are currently at the graveyard. Since the incident occurred, eight individuals have passed away,” the source stated. “We have laid two to rest, with preparations underway for the remaining six. Most of the injured were taken to Murtala Specialist Hospital’s emergency unit, while some were transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.”
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Umar Sanda, confirmed one fatality during a hospital visit alongside other security officials. Sanda clarified that the incident was not linked to terrorism but rather stemmed from a dispute over inheritance distribution.
“The suspect, dissatisfied with the distribution, resorted to violence. He is now in custody, providing valuable information. Regrettably, one of the 24 admitted to the hospital has succumbed to injuries caused by a locally made explosive device,” Sanda stated.
