Masari Criticizes Northern Elders Tinubu Endorsement Based On Expectations, Not Values....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has voiced his disapproval of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for expressing regret over their support for President Bola Tinubu in the last general election. NEF spokesperson Abdul-Azeez Suleiman stated last month that the North made an error in backing Tinubu for the presidency in 2023.
Suleiman indicated that it’s improbable they would repeat the same mistake in the future. However, Masari, in an interview with Daily Trust, argued that the Northern elders endorsed Tinubu based on expectations rather than principles.
According to Masari, it’s premature to criticize the administration in its early phase for most of the grievances it has faced. He stated, “Those expressing regret over supporting him (Tinubu) did so because their support wasn’t grounded in principles but rather on expectations. When those expectations weren’t met, they claimed regret.”
Masari emphasized that some individuals, including himself, supported Tinubu based on principles. He criticized passing judgments on a government that has only served for a short time, asserting that it’s unjustifiable.
Regarding the criticisms from presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) towards the policies of the APC-led government, Masari dismissed the notion that the opposition could have magically alleviated the hardships Nigerians are experiencing within Tinubu’s tenure.
Masari noted that other leading contenders in the 2023 presidential election also pledged to remove fuel subsidies during their campaigns, which have contributed to the country’s hardships. He questioned the credibility of those now criticizing, pointing out that they made similar promises during their campaigns.
