The Kwara State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 31 individuals on suspicion of drug-related offenses, seizing a total of 270 kilograms of various narcotics over a span of three days.
Mohammed Ibrahim, the state commander of the NDLEA, revealed these developments during a briefing held at the agency’s headquarters in Ilọrin to kick off the second phase of a targeted operation named “Operation Gbalumo/Operation Tap Root.” This joint effort with the state government aims to significantly reduce both the demand for and supply of illicit drugs.
Ibrahim emphasized the command’s commitment to sustaining its enforcement activities to prevent drug traffickers from regrouping elsewhere within the state. He expressed gratitude to the state government for its ongoing support and urged for additional assistance in the form of vehicles to facilitate smoother operational logistics across the state.
Muyideen Aliyu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, commended the command for its effective operation and pledged continued governmental backing to combat drug-related issues in the state.
Echoing this sentiment, Aileru Olamilekan, Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Drug Abuse and Prevention, underscored the government’s resolute dedication to curbing drug supply and fostering a secure environment. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate closely with the NDLEA in the battle against substance abuse.
In other news, the arraignment of the former Governor of Kogi State, scheduled for June 13, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, remains a significant development to monitor closely, as reported by the Daily Post.
