Former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, has been granted a two-week bail by an Abuja Federal High Court. This decision allows Kyari to return home and complete the burial rites for his late mother.

The court has scheduled May 31 for a ruling on his bail application concerning drug-related charges filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Kyari has been facing these charges since his arrest on February 14, 2022.

Meanwhile, the Borno Youth Forum has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release DCP Abba Kyari, citing his significant contributions in combating Boko Haram terrorists and kidnappers. In an open letter signed by Ahmed Yusuf, Chairman of the Forum, the group emphasized Kyari’s key role in arresting Boko Haram commanders responsible for over 130 suicide bombings in Borno State, including those involved in the Chibok Schoolgirls’ kidnapping of 2014 and the 2015 bombings in Nyanya and Kuje.

The Forum highlighted Kyari’s achievements, such as dismantling bomb-making factories in Niger State, which led to a cessation of bombings in Abuja, and arresting notorious criminals like Evans and Godogodo. They also noted his numerous awards for bravery and contributions to national security, including the triple IGP Medals for Courage and a commendation from the American FBI for arresting the killers of a U.S. soldier in Imo State.
