Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of National Office of WAEC, articulated this appeal during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.

Expressing solidarity with the concerns of organized labor and Nigerian workers in general, Dr. Dangut highlighted the substantial membership of WAEC’s Nigerian workforce within the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) or Trade Union Congress (TUC), both of which have called for the impending strike set to commence on Monday.

“The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has taken note of the announcement regarding the commencement of an indefinite strike by NLC and TUC effective Monday, June 3,” he stated.

He underscored the vital collaboration between WAEC and the aforementioned unions over the years, emphasizing their role in the successful execution of WAEC’s mandate.

Dr. Dangut further reminded the unions of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2024, which commenced on April 30 in Nigeria and other WAEC member countries such as The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The examination is slated to conclude by June 24.

With essential subjects such as physics, economics, government, and civic education scheduled for examination between June 3 and June 7 across Nigeria and other West African nations, any disruption in the examination process would significantly disadvantage the candidates in their academic pursuits.
