The LP, under the leadership of National Chairman Julius Abure, had announced the formation of a directorate aimed at overseeing the party’s affairs, with the intention of reducing tensions and restoring confidence among stakeholders. However, this move has been met with strong opposition from leaders of the Obidient Movement.
The Obidient Movement leaders expressed their displeasure with the LP’s decision to formalize the Obedient Directorate and integrate its members into the party’s structure. They viewed this as an overreach, particularly as key figures from the movement were not consulted regarding the appointments made within the directorate.
Representatives of the Obidient Movement criticized the LP’s actions, arguing that it was an attempt to undermine their grassroots-driven movement. They highlighted the autonomy of the Obidient Movement and its significant role in revitalizing the political landscape.
In a statement titled “We Vehemently Reject Julius Abure’s Attempt to Usurp the Obidient Movement,” leaders of the Obidient Movement vehemently rejected the offer extended by the LP. They emphasized the movement’s independent status and its global impact, asserting that it preceded the involvement of Peter Obi in the LP.
The statement condemned the LP’s failure to fulfill its electoral duties in the 2023 elections and called for a halt to the creation of the Obedient Directorate within the party. It specifically denounced the appointment of Marcel Ngogbehei to any position of authority within the movement, urging Julius Abure to engage in sincere dialogue with the true stakeholders of the Obidient Movement, starting with Peter Obi.
Leaders of various support groups affiliated with the Obidient Movement criticized the LP’s leadership, labeling the establishment of the directorate as a “ludicrous scheme” and a “destructive plot.” They rejected Marcel Ngogbehei’s appointment and reaffirmed their allegiance to Peter Obi as the leader of the movement.
This rejection underscores the tensions between the Obidient Movement and the LP leadership, highlighting the complexities within Nigeria’s political landscape
