The Central Bank of Nigeria has swiftly revoked Heritage Bank Plc’s banking license, citing immediate effect.This decisive action stems from Heritage Bank’s persistent financial underperformance, which has raised concerns about the stability of the financial sector.Sidi Ali, the Acting Director of the Corporate Communication Department at the apex bank, disclosed this development in a statement released on Monday.Despite the regulatory interventions undertaken by the CBN, Heritage Bank’s management has failed to reverse its financial decline. With little prospect of recovery in sight, the CBN has intervened to safeguard the financial system and uphold public trust.”The Nigerian financial system remains resilient. Our priority is to ensure its safety and stability,” the statement reaffirmed.Following the provisions of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act 2020, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation has been designated as the liquidator of Heritage Bank.
