Fubara had been involved in a political conflict with his predecessor and former political ally, Nyesom Wike. In October, he survived an impeachment attempt by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike. Last week, he obtained a court order restraining 25 pro-Wike lawmakers from performing legislative functions.

A statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, on Monday revealed that Fubara spoke at a thanksgiving reception organized by King Ateke Tom, the Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, to celebrate his 60th birthday. The event took place at the monarch’s residence in Okochiri town, Okrika Local Government Area, on Sunday evening.

The statement quoted Fubara: “I identify with you, King Ateke Tom, and I want to appreciate you for standing with us. As I said, the worst is over concerning the political crisis. What we are doing today is moving forward and advancing our state. And I am happy that you are one of my allies.

“I assure you the only thing that will be associated with our administration is success, success, and more success,” he added.

Fubara praised King Ateke Tom for including God in the celebration, noting the significance of reaching 60 years of age in modern times, given lifestyle changes and other challenges.

“When one marks 40, we say thank God. Somebody has marked 50, and by the special grace of God, King Ateke Tom is celebrating 60. So, I want to thank God for his life because it is only possible through God,” Fubara said.

The governor wished the monarch more glorious years on the throne and encouraged him to continue promoting peace and development, not just in Okochiri Kingdom but throughout Okrika land.

Former Minister of Transport and chairman of the occasion, Chief Abiye Sekibo, welcomed guests and expressed appreciation for Fubara’s presence. He reaffirmed the Okrika people’s commitment to supporting the governor.

King Douglas Jaja, the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, acknowledged that God had blessed King Ateke Tom within the first year of Fubara’s administration
