According to police sources, the patrol team encountered a tricycle carrying three individuals, suspected to be involved in criminal activities. Upon realizing they were law enforcement, the suspects attempted to flee but were pursued by the police. During the chase, one suspect was apprehended with a black bag containing the seized firearm.

Upon questioning, the detained suspect revealed that his accomplices, who managed to escape, were part of their criminal gang. They were known for their modus operandi of robbing and sometimes kidnapping unsuspecting victims.

Based on the information provided by the apprehended suspect, the police conducted a search of their hideouts along the NNPC Link Road, resulting in a confrontation where the suspect attempted to flee by jumping off a bridge. However, he sustained fatal injuries during the altercation and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ekpan General Hospital.
