According to Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the incident occurred during a dispute over unpaid house rent.
The police received a report of a suspected murder case from the deceased’s daughter, Miss Precious Apeh, on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
Precious informed the police that her father confronted the tenant at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday regarding overdue rent payments. She recounted hearing her father arguing with the tenant around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, during which the tenant allegedly threatened him.
Tragically, Apeh collapsed during the argument and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, where he was pronounced dead by attending medical personnel.
The tenant fled the scene, but police efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him. Detectives, led by SP Temitope Fapohunda, have visited the scene, gathered evidence, and initiated further investigations.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, as the investigation progresses.
