A Huge Loss To Nigeria’ – Peter Obi Reacts To Death Of Brig.-Gen. Braimah

He noted that the tragedy should prompt Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s value system, particularly how much importance is placed on the lives of its citizens and those defending the country.

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Obi called for renewed commitment to protecting Nigerians, including members of the armed forces who risk their lives for national security.

The former Anambra State governor also offered prayers for the bereaved families, asking for strength and comfort in the face of their loss.

He said the incident reminded him of how other nations prioritize the rescue and protection of their soldiers in conflict zones, stressing that such occurrences should inspire Nigeria to strengthen its approach to safeguarding lives.

Obi prayed that God would grant the families of the fallen soldiers the fortitude to endure the painful loss and that the souls of the deceased would rest in peace, honoring their sacrifice to the nation.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has refuted reports claiming that 17 soldiers, including a Brigade Commander, were killed in the Benisheikh attack in Borno State, describing such accounts as false and exaggerated.

The Army expressed concern over the spread of misleading information across some media platforms and social channels.

In a statement issued on Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, clarified that the actual casualties were two officers and two soldiers.

He also dismissed claims that the Brigade Commander’s vehicle failed during the attack, explaining that the officer was in a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, which was only temporarily immobilized while he actively directed counter-operations.

Uba further warned against circulating unrelated videos and reports, noting that some of the content being shared does not reflect the recent attack on troops in Benisheikh.
