Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has escalated her ongoing conflict with Senate President Godswill Akpabio by reporting her suspension to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), seeking international intervention over what she calls an unjust decision.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Kogi Central lawmaker was recently suspended by the Senate for alleged violations of parliamentary rules. However, the suspension followed her submission of a petition against Akpabio, raising questions about the timing and motives behind the action.

Natasha has condemned the suspension, calling it “unlawful” and highlighting the broader challenges women face in Nigeria’s political arena.

Mixed Reactions to Natasha’s Appeal

Her move to escalate the issue to the IPU has sparked a wide range of reactions across social media. Some Nigerians support her stance, while others question its potential impact.

@Famozy2 expressed admiration for her courage but questioned the effectiveness of involving the IPU: “I love her courage to continue fighting the injustice, but my fear is, to what end? What influence does the IPU have over the National Assembly?”

@ibrahsan2 accused Natasha of misrepresenting the situation: “The whole issue started with seat relocation and her disobedience to Senate rules, but she’s now claiming it’s because of her petition. Just imagine. Foreigners pay attention to details.”

@Scripthesis was doubtful about any significant outcome: “Nothing will happen. Akpabio will speak to Tinubu, who will offer a concession, and the issue will be forgotten. Natasha will be politically damaged for life. You don’t understand Nigerian politics where ethics are non-existent.”

Some users believe Natasha’s actions may backfire politically.

@itee800 commented, “She’s digging her political grave. Who is advising her?”

Others, however, defended Natasha, criticizing the Senate’s handling of the situation.

@Sunteky wrote, “Look at the embarrassment these senators are causing the institution. They rushed to suspend her without fair hearing to avoid local embarrassment. Now, she’s gone to the world, and it’s become an international embarrassment.”

@marvelfairs slammed the Senate’s decision: “This isn’t a good move for the Nigerian Senate, the National Assembly, the APC, or the Nigerian political space in general. Those behind her suspension should have known better. They thought humiliation and intimidation were wiser, but they were wrong.”

Despite the mixed reactions, some still question the legitimacy of her claims.
