The ICC, originally constructed in 1991 during the Babangida administration, was renovated under the supervision of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and re-commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in June. Following its facelift, the facility was renamed the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre. Wike recently claimed the centre now generates as much as ₦700 million in revenue post-renovation.

However, Adeyanju, who attended a birthday event at the venue on July 20, took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the state of the facility. He described it as poorly maintained, stating that the air conditioners were not functional and that in his opinion, even ₦5 billion was not spent on the actual renovation.
