This coalition represents the 24 indigenous communities of Aba North and Aba South. They firmly assert that designating a non-indigenous person as the ‘Mayor of Aba’ is an affront to the sensibilities of the hardworking and peaceful indigenous population of Aba.
Following a meeting held on Thursday, the coalition released a statement vowing to resist any actions that might incite violence in Aba city.
The communique was jointly signed by Mr. Ogechukwu Ogbonna (commonly known as Obama), Mr. Chintua Nwagba, and Engr Obinna Greg.
The statement expressed concern about Governor Otti’s deliberate exclusion of Aba in his appointments to the State Executive Council and in leadership roles within the markets.
The communique reads, “The Indigenous People of Aba Ngwa, representing the 24 indigenous communities of Aba North and Aba South, convened a meeting on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Osusu Aba Town Hall. As a result of this well-attended meeting, the Forum has issued the following resolutions:
“We acknowledge that Dr. Alex Otti’s actions are bound by the Constitution of Nigeria and other relevant laws.”
