In an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Abaribe stated that the arrest of Ekpa would serve as a strong warning to those who incite violence in the South-East, potentially helping to curb the unrest plaguing the region. He also accused Ekpa and his followers of using the Biafra movement as a cover for criminal activities.
“We have always maintained that Simon Ekpa’s actions in the South-East are completely wrong and do not align with what Ndigbo stand for,” Abaribe remarked. “The genuine desire for a peaceful, non-violent referendum by IPOB has been hijacked by these criminals, who are using the movement to cause chaos and bloodshed in the region.”
The lawmaker further pointed out that Ekpa, despite his claims of being a mere “content creator,” has been responsible for inciting violence and unrest in the South-East. Abaribe expressed hope that the arrest would serve as a deterrent to others who are contributing to the region’s instability.
