Abia Government Suspends State House Of Assembly Clerk In Surprise Move

The Abia State Government has suspended the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, John Pedro Irokansi, over allegations of misconduct.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The suspension was contained in a letter dated Friday, May 29, 2026, and signed by the State Head of Service, Benson Ojeikere.

Following the decision, the government announced the appointment of Promise Onwukwe, a Deputy Director in the Legislative Department of the Abia State House of Assembly, as Acting Clerk with immediate effect.

Although the allegations against Irokansi were not disclosed, the government stated that the acting appointment will remain in place pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

Onwukwe has been directed to oversee the administration of the Clerk’s office until the investigation is concluded or further directives are issued by the appropriate authorities.

He is also expected to safeguard all government assets, official records, and documents in his custody in line with existing regulations.

Irokansi, a veteran civil servant, has served as Clerk of the Abia State House of Assembly for about 16 years, working across three different administrations in the state.
