The visit to the Sokoto Correctional Centre was confirmed on Sunday night in a statement from Otti’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

Accompanied by Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), Kanu’s younger brother Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and senior Sokoto State officials, Governor Otti assured the IPOB leader that the administrative processes he initiated over two years ago to resolve his situation had been accelerated despite recent developments.

Otti encouraged Kanu to “remain calm but strong,” affirming that the matter would be resolved administratively and that he would eventually regain his freedom. He also welcomed the support of the Sultan of Sokoto, who shares the view on the importance of Kanu’s release and the broader need to de-escalate regional tensions.

In response, Kanu, reportedly in high spirits, expressed gratitude to the governor for the visit. He emphasized his commitment to good governance and initiatives that improve the welfare of the people, while also praying for God’s guidance for Otti and his team in their service to the state.
