Abia Govt Breaks Silence On Youth’s Sh*cking Death In Umuahia Cult War
The Abia State Government has provided clarification regarding the actions of the state’s special security outfit, Operation Crush, which resulted in the death of a suspected cultist and the arrest of another on Sunday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, explained that the fatal shooting was not intentional. Speaking to the press on Monday after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, Kanu revealed that a violent clash involving cult groups occurred on Imo Lane, off Uzuakoli Road in Umuahia.
“Police reports indicate that a resident in the area was attacked with a machete by a cult group. A concerned resident alerted Operation Crush, prompting their swift response,” he said.
Upon arrival, the cultists reportedly fled the scene. During the chaos, a warning shot fired into the air inadvertently struck one of the escaping suspects, who later died from his injuries. Another cult member was captured and is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
Kanu noted that while the government typically avoids reacting to unverified online claims, the spread of misleading information surrounding the incident necessitated a formal response. He confirmed that the injured civilian is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital, and the deceased cultist has been taken to the morgue.
He added that investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, the Commissioner announced that the official relaunch of the state’s sanitary inspectors, known locally as Ndi Ole-ala, will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025. This initiative aims to bolster the state’s ongoing efforts to maintain environmental hygiene.
