Abia Police And NLC Reach Accord For Peaceful Protest

ASP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, conveyed the Command’s assurances through a press release on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie. The release disclosed that necessary measures had been taken to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the scheduled NLC protests on February 27th and 28th, 2024.

The NLC delegation, as highlighted in the press release, gave their commitment to peaceful protests and pledged cooperation with security agencies to ensure a seamless and trouble-free demonstration in the state. The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Abia State Police Command’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents.

In the midst of this development, some civil servants and transporters in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, expressed their intent to participate in the protest. Individuals such as Echere Onuoha, Chukwudi Uzodike, and Gbaruko Olunta cited economic hardship stemming from the escalating prices of food items as the driving force behind their involvement.
