Abia State’s capital, Umuahia metropolis, is set to witness a shift in its road maintenance strategy. The ministry of works will now undertake road maintenance through direct labor instead of contracting out the work to external parties.

Oti revealed that the Umuahia metropolis will serve as a testing ground for this policy, which will later be extended to Aba, the state’s commercial hub, and other regions.

The metropolis will be divided into three sections, each assigned to a different engineer responsible for overseeing the maintenance work and ensuring its sustainability.

Engineers will be provided with the necessary resources and support to carry out their tasks effectively. Oti emphasized that these designated engineers will be held responsible for any shortcomings in their respective areas.

Criticizing the previous method, Oti argued that it is not prudent for a responsible administration to allocate its limited resources in such a manner when it has a plethora of professional engineers on its payroll.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Ejike Agomoh, the director in charge of the ministry, praised Oti’s initiative and regarded it as a well-guided step.

Agomoh acknowledged Oti’s capacity to lead this initiative and assured that the engineers are determined to ensure its success, further pledging their continued support and loyalty to the administration.
