Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the Commissioner for Health, addressed the issue during the flag-off of the Ministry’s free medical services at Aba General Hospital. She emphasized that the era of owing healthcare workers their entitlements was over, as the governor had prioritized timely payments of salaries and allowances.
Dr. Okoronkwo clarified that Governor Alex Otti had no plans to sack any medical doctor or healthcare personnel within the state’s public service. She asserted that the alleged dismissals existed solely in the imagination of those spreading the falsehood.
The Commissioner also emphasized that no one had been instructed to submit a “fresh expression of interest” as stated in the fake circular. She advised doctors and the general public to disregard the rumor and support the government’s initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the state.
Dr. Okoronkwo highlighted her own efforts since her appointment as Special Adviser on Health Care Delivery in the Otti administration. She played a key role in resolving a six-month strike by healthcare workers, which led to their immediate return to work. Additionally, she is currently leading the administration’s initiatives to revitalize dilapidated healthcare facilities throughout the state.
