Lewis Obianyi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared the winner of the March 18, 2023 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He faced opposition from Ekeke Adiele of the Labour Party and other candidates.

However, the petition challenging Obianyi’s victory was filed by Okeke Adiele as the Labour Party candidate instead of Ekeke Adiele, the rightful candidate.

The tribunal, composed of three members and chaired by Justice A. A. Aderibigbe, issued a unanimous judgment, dismissing the petition for lack of merit.

The tribunal found that Okeke Adiele failed to substantiate his claim of non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election. Furthermore, it clarified that Okeke Adiele was not the same person as Ekeke Adiele, the Labour Party’s designated candidate.

In response to the judgment, Chidozie Ogunji, the lead counsel for Lewis Obianyi, commended the tribunal for upholding justice.

Lewis Obianyi expressed his dedication to providing quality representation for his constituency and contributing to the creation of beneficial laws for the state, while dedicating his victory to God.
