Abike Dabiri Reveals Kemi Badenoch’s Silence After Repeated Attempts To Contact, Defends Nigerians’ Autonomy....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has stated that Nigeria will not pressure Kemi Badenoch, the newly elected leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, to embrace her Nigerian heritage.

Dabiri-Erewa explained that NiDCOM had made several attempts to contact Badenoch but received no response.

“It is up to her to decide if she identifies with her Nigerian roots,” Dabiri-Erewa said during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, November 6. “We’ve reached out to her once or twice, but we don’t force people to embrace being Nigerian.”

She reiterated that while NiDCOM is open to collaborating with Nigerians abroad, the decision to acknowledge one’s heritage ultimately rests with the individual. Dabiri-Erewa referenced other instances, like the Miss Universe Nigeria contestant, who identified with her Nigerian heritage after facing challenges in South Africa, highlighting the commission’s respect for personal choices regarding identity.

Kemi Badenoch, 44, born in London and raised in both Lagos, Nigeria, and the United States, secured victory in the Conservative Party leadership race on Saturday with 57% of the vote, defeating former immigration minister Robert Jenrick. Her election as the first black leader of a major UK political party marks a historic achievement. In her victory speech, Badenoch expressed that it was an “enormous honor” to lead, acknowledging the challenges ahead and stating, “It is time to get down to business, it is time to renew.
