Abuja Police Bust Alleged Robbery Syndicate Operating Across Four States
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers in separate operations across Abuja, recovering three locally made pistols, three live cartridges and other items allegedly linked to criminal activities.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed the arrests on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja.
According to Sanusi, two of the suspects, identified as Jamilu Abdulsalam and Ibrahim Isah, were apprehended after intelligence-led operations helped officers track them down.
He said the suspects had been on the police command’s wanted list over their alleged involvement in a robbery syndicate operating in Abuja and parts of Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi states.
The commissioner alleged that members of the syndicate monitored their targets’ movements and daily routines before attacking them at gunpoint and dispossessing them of their valuables.
Sanusi further stated that Abdulsalam and Isah were arrested shortly after allegedly carrying out an armed robbery and attempting to leave the FCT for a hideout in Nasarawa State.
During the operation, police reportedly recovered three locally made pistols and three live cartridges. The commissioner added that the suspects would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
In a separate operation, operatives arrested another suspected armed robber, identified as Chibuike Odeh, in the Daki-Biyu area of Jabi District, Abuja.
Sanusi said the arrest followed a robbery complaint lodged at the Jabi Police Division on October 18, 2026.
According to the commissioner, the female complainant was allegedly attacked while returning home from work after reporting the incident. The suspect was accused of wearing a face mask, threatening the woman with a knife and forcefully taking her handbag, which reportedly contained an iPhone and other valuables.
The police chief further alleged that the suspect used the victim’s phone and ATM card to withdraw money from her bank accounts.
Following the complaint, a surveillance team from the Jabi Police Division reportedly launched an investigation and traced the suspect to his residence in Daki-Biyu, where he was arrested.
A search of the residence allegedly led to the recovery of several items, including a bag, a sharp knife, an iron, a black face mask, a power bank and a voter’s card.
Sanusi confirmed that Odeh and the recovered items remained in police custody as investigations continued. He said the suspect would also be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the FCT Police Command has reiterated its commitment to tackling armed robbery and other criminal activities in Abuja, while investigations into the cases continue.
