During a media briefing in Abuja, Wike highlighted the current lack of facilities for tracking criminals in the FCTA, pointing out that such resources are only available at the Police Headquarters and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Wike expressed concern over the insufficient provision of essential facilities and vehicles for security agencies, emphasizing the absence of equipment to track criminals. He stressed the need to address these gaps, stating that relying solely on the Office of the National Security Adviser or the Force Headquarters in times of emergencies is not the optimal approach.

The Minister also revealed that, prior to their tenure, the police had requested the procurement of motorcycles for areas inaccessible by vehicles, but unfortunately, these were not provided. Wike pledged to rectify this and underscored the importance of not only enhancing security equipment but also motivating personnel.

Wike refrained from disclosing specific strategies, citing the ongoing security discussions. The move to prioritize the procurement of essential equipment and address personnel motivation aligns with the broader goal of improving security measures in the face of the recent surge in insecurity within the nation’s capital.

The Senate has taken notice of the heightened insecurity, summoning Wike to address the concerns. Meanwhile, recent efforts by security agencies have led to the successful rescue of abducted residents in Abuja.
