Accident: Pedestrian Killed By Electrified Cable Drum Outside Company Container

An unidentified man tragically lost his life on March 14 in the Ilemba Hausa area of Lagos state when a cable drum, being removed from a company’s container, accidentally struck him.

According to reports from the police, the manager of the electrical company informed authorities that at approximately 8:30 a.m. that day, a Hiab Forklifter was in the process of transferring armoured cables from a container to the company’s premises along Ojo Igbede road.

During this operation, a cable drum became disconnected and fell onto the victim, who was reportedly engrossed in his phone while walking. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Law enforcement officials promptly visited the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident. The company owner is under scrutiny for alleged recklessness and negligence. It is reported that proper safety measures, such as warning signs indicating the danger of the operation and the presence of a guard to direct traffic, were not in place as required.

Confirming the occurrence, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the command, stated that the deceased’s body has been transferred to the morgue, while inquiries into the incident continue.
