The victims, including police officers, military personnel, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officers, had responded to a distress call in Oriagu, Ehime Mbano Area of Imo state, which turned out to be a false alarm set up to lure them into an ambush.

A statement released on Wednesday, September 20, by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, expressed deep sorrow for the tragic loss of lives of these dedicated security personnel, who put their lives on the line to maintain peace and protect citizens in Imo State.

The Acting IGP affirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to collaborating with relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this reprehensible act and bring the culprits to justice.

He assured the public of intensified efforts to ensure the safety of officers and the security of communities while urging citizens to remain calm and vigilant.

Furthermore, the police chief called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the collective pursuit of peace and order in Imo State and across the nation.

He also encouraged individuals with information related to the incident to come forward and actively assist in the investigative process or provide information anonymously through the NPF’s social media platforms.
