Amaechi announced on Thursday that he had submitted his presidential nomination forms at the ADC national secretariat ahead of the next general election.
The former minister said his decision to enter the race was motivated by a determination to restore hope, dignity, and better living conditions for Nigerians amid the country’s current economic and social difficulties.
“Today, I officially submitted my presidential nomination forms at the ADC Secretariat, formally declaring my intention to join the race to rescue Nigeria,” Amaechi stated.
He added that his mission is centred on rebuilding national pride, restoring Nigeria’s global respect, and promoting unity, peace, prosperity, and progress across the country.
Amaechi, who was previously a leading figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), had contested for the APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 elections before his eventual political shift.
With his latest declaration, the former governor is expected to face former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and other aspirants during the ADC presidential primary contest.
In recent months, the ADC has increasingly emerged as a political destination for opposition figures and other politicians seeking alternatives outside Nigeria’s dominant political parties.
