ADC’s 2027 Presidential Backing Revealed By Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has disclosed that a coalition of opposition politicians will rally behind whoever emerges as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Among those eyeing the ADC presidential ticket are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party flagbearer Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi—all key members of the coalition.

Speaking to reporters after the third expanded meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North), Lawal emphasized that the ADC will uphold democratic values by conducting congresses and primaries to select its candidates.

“The ADC is built on democratic ideals. We will hold congresses and conventions to elect our representatives. And whoever emerges—regardless of region—will have the full backing of both the ADC and the Northern Political Consultative Group,” Lawal affirmed.

He further insisted that the party is determined to ensure that every vote counts in the 2027 elections.

“Let no one be deceived—votes do matter, and this time around, we’ll make sure they count. ADC is a true Nigerian party, and whatever tactics are used against us, we are ready to confront and overcome them.”

Lawal also stressed that the ADC aims to build a government committed to addressing the needs of northern Nigeria.

“This current administration seems uninterested in tackling the region’s pressing issues—whether it’s infrastructure, peace, or security. We must take responsibility and actively work toward resolving these challenges,” he concluded.
