Kenneth Omeruo, a defender for the Super Eagles, has voiced his dissatisfaction with coach Jose Peseiro’s strategies following Nigeria’s loss to Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on Sunday….READ ALSO
The former Chelsea player mentioned that the Super Eagles adopted an overly defensive stance against Ivory Coast.
Omeruo, addressing journalists after the match, also confessed his disappointment at Nigeria’s failure to secure the AFCON trophy.
Reflecting on the game, Peseiro remarked, “I believe we commenced the match with a defensive mindset, which is a prolonged period to maintain such a stance. A single mistake can result in conceding a goal.”
“When a team starts with a defensive approach, exhaustion sets in early. Personally, I’m disheartened that we couldn’t clinch the trophy.”
Recall that Ivory Coast secured a 2-1 victory over the Super Eagles, with goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller. Captain William Troost-Ekong did manage to score a goal for Peseiro’s team during the game.
