Nigeria secured a spot in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Bafana Bafana in a penalty shootout.

However, the intensity and emotion of the match seemed to overwhelm some fans.

At least five individuals were reported to have passed away while watching the game.

Among them were Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Adamawa State known as Samuel; Ayuba Abdullahi, Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Malete; and Mikail Osundiji from Olomoore area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Additionally, it was reported that Osondu Nwoye, a businessman originally from Anambra state but based in Cote d’Ivoire, collapsed inside the stadium and later passed away in a hospital.

During their team meeting on Thursday, Eagles captain Ahmed Musa shared the sad news with the rest of the squad.

Musa led the team in a moment of silence to honor the departed souls, offering prayers for their peaceful rest.
