In a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, Afenifere acknowledged the right to protest but emphasized the need to evaluate the broader context of the proposed demonstrations.

Ajayi stated, “Afenifere understands that the upcoming protest aims to highlight the severe difficulties currently faced by Nigerians. Protests are a legitimate way for people to express their dissatisfaction and frustration over their circumstances.”

He continued, “However, it is important to consider whether protest is the most effective method to attract the government’s attention to the hardships being experienced. If protests are to proceed, their form and approach must be carefully planned.”

Afenifere also highlighted that the Federal Government has acknowledged the country’s issues and has committed to engaging with Nigerians to address these challenges.

Reflecting on the #EndSARS protests of 2020, Ajayi pointed out the lasting impacts, such as the destruction of a critical laboratory in Lagos that remains unreplaced, illustrating the unintended consequences of such actions.

The organization called on the government to engage meaningfully with citizens and take concrete steps to alleviate their suffering promptly.
