The 5th edition of the 2024 African Illustrious Son Award concluded recently at Oriental Hotel, Lagos, honoring a total of 37 outstanding individuals from across Nigeria and beyond.
Ralph Chidozie, one of the event organizers, highlighted the significance of the awards, stating, “This quarter’s awards celebrate Nigerians who have excelled remarkably. We hold two editions annually, in June and December, with the latter focusing on personalities from other African countries.”
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State was acclaimed as Governor of the Year, a recognition attributed to his transformative leadership and achievements in fostering peace and development in Kaduna State. Chidozie explained, “Initially, our choice was the Governor of Abia State, but he respectfully declined. Governor Sani emerged as a worthy recipient due to his notable contributions, particularly in enhancing security and infrastructure, which have significantly reduced conflict incidents compared to previous administrations.”
The African Illustrious Son Award, held annually and quarterly, aims to honor individuals who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, philanthropy, business, academia, and other significant areas of societal impact.
Representing Governor Uba Sani, Barrister James Kanyip, Deputy Chief of Staff, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the people of Kaduna. It serves as motivation to redouble efforts towards greater achievements.”
Among other notable awardees were Dr. Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu as Distinguished Philanthropist of the Year, Chief Dele Momodu, Mr. Emeka Adebowale Onyeokoro as Oil Consultant of the Year, Hon. Ikoro Kingsley Ogbonna, Mrs. Bolanle Austen-Peters, Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan, Tomas Fernandez Garcie, Dr. Kolade Ayodeji Segun-Okeowo, Dr. Kenneth Okonkwo, and Alhaji Abubarka Sanusi Yakubu.
