After Viral Fallout, Osun Speaker And Oba Oyewale Stage Dramatic Peace Deal

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and the Alasi of Asi, Oba Olasunkanmi Oyewale, have reconciled after a week-long public dispute that stirred attention across the state.

The rift became public when a voice note leaked on social media, in which Egbedun—speaking to a woman believed to be the monarch’s wife—accused Oba Oyewale of supporting hoodlums who allegedly attacked him in Okuku. In the recording, the Speaker threatened to take action against the traditional ruler.

In the aftermath, youths in Asi staged a peaceful protest, accusing the monarch of targeting Egbedun, who is a native of the town.

On Thursday, Egbedun was formally welcomed back to the community, signalling the restoration of peace.

Asi community youth leader, Samuel Olawoyin, told residents that the disagreement had been settled.
“We are here to welcome our leader back. As he rightly said, there is no more crisis in the town. The youth, elders, and chiefs are now working together. The chiefs present today are here on behalf of the Alasi of Asi to show that peace has returned,” he said.

Addressing the crowd, Egbedun thanked the people for their support and called for continued harmony.
“I am not fighting anyone. I appeal to the people of Asi not to protest or fight. I appreciate the chiefs who came here today,” he said in Yoruba.
