Despite attempting to enter the airport, the protesters were halted at the checkpoint by the military.
Frustrated by the denial, they proceeded to block both entry and exit routes, resulting in significant vehicular congestion.
Travellers were compelled to walk into the airport due to the disruption.
In line with the NLC’s directive, aviation industry unions on Wednesday ordered the suspension of all flights to Owerri from airports nationwide.
The nationwide strike declared by the NLC and TUC ensued following the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero in Imo last week.
