Edo State Police Command apprehended four individuals accused of stealing six batteries from an Airtel Telecommunications mast, with an estimated value of N12 million. The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, in a statement released on Sunday in Benin City.
The suspects, namely Otete Emmanuel, Onya Ndubisi, Oliver Sodenyi, and Okuru Benedict, were reportedly apprehended while wearing green reflective jackets and driving a white Toyota Hilux with the registration number EPE 328 HY. The vehicle was parked at Imorta Filling Station along Benin-Agbor Expressway, Benin City.
According to Nwabuzor, the arrests were made by Okhuaihe Divisional Police following a distress call from the command’s control room. Despite a search of the suspects’ vehicle yielding no incriminating evidence, a witness, Robert Daniel, who reported the incident at the Okhuaihe Division, confronted the suspects, claiming to have witnessed the theft of the six batteries.
The suspects, Otete Emmanuel, Onya Ndubisi, Oliver Sodenyi, and Okuru Benedict, have denied the allegations and any involvement in the theft. The police spokesperson disclosed that an investigation is underway, and the suspects will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Benin for a thorough and discreet investigation.
