Aisha Achimugu Launches Hunger Strike After EFCC Arrest Sparks Legal Uproar

Renowned business executive and socialite, Aisha Achimugu, has embarked on a hunger strike following her arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Her arrest occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, shortly after she voluntarily returned to Nigeria from London to honour an EFCC invitation tied to a probe involving criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Achimugu’s legal counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), confirmed her arrest and hunger strike in a public statement, stating that she had already informed the Federal High Court in Abuja of her intention to present herself at the EFCC office on Tuesday.

“Our client came back to Nigeria under an undertaking to honour the EFCC’s invitation, only to be arrested at the airport,” Ojukwu said, describing the move as a violation of the rule of law.

The EFCC had earlier declared her wanted in March 2025 in connection with the allegations.

On Monday, Justice I.E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court had directed Achimugu to report to the EFCC on Tuesday and appear before the court the following day.

Aside from her public profile, Achimugu serves as the Group Managing Director/CEO of Felak Concept Group, a diversified conglomerate with operations spanning engineering, oil and gas, maritime, and information technology.
